📊 System Overview
JibunEHON is a service that allows users to flexibly customize the main character in picture books, making it easy to create a unique, personalized picture book.
This service has received a lot of positive feedback from users, especially when used as a gift for children or the children of friends.
Customizable parts
- You can change the name, appearance, and other details of the main character.
- The background will change depending on your child’s birth month.
- You can put your child’s photo inside.
- You can add a message for your child at the end of the picture book.
- You can choose the wrapping paper.
Details about the support we provide
This service was created out of a desire to connect an external InDesign server with a web server, aiming to provide a platform that allows for a seamless process from customizing picture books to selling them on "JibunEHON".
To optimize development costs, the client considered adopting an offshore development model. During the partner selection process, they paid particular attention to criteria such as:
- Practical experience in offshore development
- Ability to coordinate and implement projects with InDesign Server operators
Among the many suppliers considered, our company was chosen because of:
- Owns a wholly-owned subsidiary in Vietnam, with extensive experience and knowledge in offshore development.
- Capable of coordinating and managing multiple vendors within a single project.
Thanks to these factors, clients have placed their trust in us and entrusted the project to us.
💡 Challenges and Initiatives
In this project, our company provided comprehensive support from the requirements analysis phase → development → testing.
During development, one of the major challenges was that InDesign Server (originating from Israel) was not widely deployed in Japan, leading to difficulties in integration with the application and impacting development progress.
To effectively address this issue, we established a direct coordination mechanism between our development team and the InDesign Server operations team, maintaining close communication regarding server functionality and specifications, thereby thoroughly resolving any arising problems.
Additionally, another challenge is the slow display time of the preview screen for user-customized picture books.
Initially, creating and displaying previews was done entirely through InDesign Server. However, we proposed a solution where only the necessary parts were edited directly on the application side, bypassing InDesign Server, in order to display the preview.
Thanks to this method, the display time has been significantly shortened, improving the user experience.
📈 Development process
The Japanese PM/SE serves as the point of contact, while the development and implementation is handled by our wholly-owned subsidiary in Vietnam.
Throughout the development process, we allocated resources equivalent to 11 man-months (including the designer) to execute the project.
The main AWS services used in JibunEHON and how to apply them.
In designing JibunEHON's infrastructure, we leveraged core AWS services. By integrating AWS services, the system built a scalable and highly available infrastructure, thereby enhancing the user experience.
- Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud)
Amazon EC2 is a virtual server service. In JibunEHON, EC2 is used to provide the computing resources necessary for application operation, backend logic processing, and system task execution.
- Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service)
Amazon RDS is a relational database management service that makes deploying, operating, and scaling databases easy. In JibunEHON, RDS is used to store data and manage the application's database.
- Amazon Route 53
Amazon Route 53 is a highly available and scalable DNS service. In JibunEHON, this service is used to manage domain names and route traffic.
- Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service)
Amazon S3 is an object-oriented storage service used for data storage, backup, and distribution. In JibunEHON, S3 is used to store static files, back up data, and store user-uploaded files.
- Amazon CloudFront
Amazon CloudFront is a CDN service that helps distribute content quickly and securely. In JibunEHON, CloudFront is used to accelerate the delivery of static and dynamic content, thereby improving the user experience.
Deliverables and future support plans
Since its launch, JibunEHON has been used by many people.
Currently, we are also receiving requests for operation and maintenance, and we are implementing functional improvements based on customer requirements.
